What is network marketing?  First let's talk about what network marketing is NOT.  Network marketing is not a pyramid scheme. Pyramids are programs similar to chain letters where people just invest money based on the promise that other people will put in money that will filtrate back to them and somehow, they'll get rich. A pyramid is strictly a money game and has no basis in real commerce. Normally, there's no product involved at all, just money changing hands. Today's pyramids may have a product althought it is generally etheric and some sort of "contact or e-mail list".  

If you want to get technical, while they are obviously legal business enitities, corporations across America are pyramids because the person at the top is the person that makes the most money.  There is not going to be any person within the organization that will make more than the CEO - period.  While in network marketing you may be in it for fun, to make just some additional vacation money or just simply for the social aspect and you may sponsor someone who really makes a business out of their opportunity and can make hundreds, thousands or even millions more than you might.  People surpass and go around their sponsors everyday in income.

Network marketing is a legitimate business. Network marketing is based on providing people with real, legitimate products they need and want at a fair price. While some people do make a lot of money through network marketing, their financial gain is always a direct result of their own dedicated efforts in building an organization that sells real products and services.  What you get out of network marketing is directly associated with the amount of effort that you put into it.  The old saying goes, "If you help enough people get what they want in life, what you want will surely come."

When you have an online business it is important to be able to network with other online business owners.  I have found a couple of online communities that have an excellent set-up for mix and mingling with other online business owners.  There are also in person networking opportunities based on your specific location.  When you are creating any type of business networking and partnering with other business owners is an excellent way to increase traffic to your business.  When you find businesses that are related in some way, you can often exchange advertising banners and/or recommend the other businesses services or products that you know are available.  Without networking you may not be able to provide this added no cost value for your clients. 

The in-person networking, which is not typical of online businesses, is great because you can get together with local online business owners and see what is working for them and how they are driving traffic to their website and/or how they created their business.  You can also give and get referrals from these relationships.  There are a million online opportunities, and building relationships with other business owners help you not only to learn what is available out there online, but also to be able to comfortably refer business.

AdLandPro has been another excellent resource for me for online networking with their strong forums.  There are some really helpful forum discussions on what is working in various business aspects.    

WebBizInsider has been a huge traffic driver in my statistics.  You can surf for credits to achieve free advertising or you can buy a membership at various levels.  The free membership is a great way to get some traffic, but even a small paid account multiplies the traffic ten fold. 

Reality Networkers is an organization that creates a team to be able to network with one another, and not in a way that pulls anyone away from the opportunity they are involved in.  The Reality Networkers group is more based on creating residual income for the teams by building a strong support for those new coming in, teaching those never involved in network marketing how it works and then as various residual income opportunities arise the team as a whole participates even while they are working on their main opportunity whatever that may be.  This is simply another avenue to expose your primary opportunity in as well as make residual income through other various tested opportunities.
