The tactical plan is the reactive plan based on what is going on at the moment. The hope is that a good tactical plan can get you through a crisis moment. You do not want to be strictly tactical in nature as it tends to wear you down over time. The tactical plan used exclusively is great for example to increase sales in the moment as this approach will help you figure out a definite way to work twice as hard and make it happen. The tactical plan is defined as "any skillful method to gain an end" according to Webster's Dictionary.
The tactical approach uses discipline and determination to implement the ideas of the strategic plan. You definitely want to be able to react in the moment, but also to have a broad strategic plan. The ideal is to combine both tactical and strategic plans. The strategic plan that whereby the overall big picture goals are laid out, and does not include the day-to-day portion of getting the plan implemented - that is the tactical portion. The strategic plan by definition in Webster's Dictionary is, "the science of planning and directing military operations". The perfect strategic plan is to incorporate tactical day-to-day operations with a big ideas and big strategies. Be both proactive and reactive simultaneously. |
